.....and in their own words!

My Brother

This week we are sharing the story of My Brother by Anthony Browne. The children have been working with Miss Lambert and Mrs Steel to act out some imaginary family role-play and tell us what it is about their families and brothers in particular that are so super......

I am the daddy, I tell everybody off! All these live here (pointing to the other children in the group) - Harvey
I am the brother called Alfie - Harry
My family can ride a bike....my brother the one with the black hair - Lucas
I am the dog. I like dogs...I'm going to stay in bed! - Leo
My mum can cook meals - Libby
My brother...on a skateboard. He goes upside down - Alexander

Matthew - my brother can skate a skateboard.
Guy - she (my sister) can ride a bike and do gymnastics. She's cool!
Ben - my sister can run fast (waving his arms to demonstrate) this fast!
Jasmine - I've got a sister, she's five. She goes to work

What do some of the children say about their mum?

My mum can do the shopping (Harvey)
My mummy can make food (Harry)
My mum loves me (Alex)
My mum can put me a DVD on (Libby)
My mum can play football (Leo)
My mum can hoover (Lucas)
My mum can read (Finlay)
My mum can take pictures of me (Louie)
My mum gives me loads of cuddles (Taylor)
My mum can run fast (Ben)

It just goes to show what a lot of talented mums we have!

Writing

As we discussed today, children can practice reading and writing their letters and key words in a variety of ways:
  • Chunky chalks on the pavement/patio outside
  • Felt tip pens on an old roll of wallpaper
  • Paintbrushes and buckets of water (outside!)
  • Painting - small scale and big scale
  • Magnetic letters on the fridge
  • Letters in the bath
  • DS pictochat (you can send messages to each other)
  • Squeezy bottles with water to make the letter shapes/words on the floor (again outdoor!)
  • Gel pens
  • Bingo dabbers

Thank you for all the suggestions you have made. Please keep them coming in!

Thank you!

Important Dates

Welcome to Reception Meeting

Please note we will be holding another welcome meeting on Monday 13th September at 1.30pm

This will be an opportunity for us to share information with you and to let you know how you can support us by helping your child with reading and writing. Your support in these early stages, and beyond, will have an enormous impact on your child's progress!

Ourselves and our families

Our topic this half term will be 'Ourselves and our families.' The children will have lots of different opportunities to find out about how we grow and develop, the types of foods we need and what else we need to do to stay healthy. They will be drawing and painting self portraits and will be creating a gallery of family members.
Our areas of provison including the office, library and role play areas have been set up to encourage the children to explore and develop their understanding. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Welcome to Reception at Robin Hood

Welcome to our Reception class, where you will start your amazing journey at Robin Hood school!
